MALE LIONS appear bigger and more powerful because of MANE in comparsion with TIGER |
Lead | ||
|
The male lion appears to be more then what it really is because of its huge mane. There's not 1 attribute that a male lion has over a male tiger, and this
is coming from an unbiased animal expert. The male bengal/amur tiger has bigger teeth, claws and is bulit more powerful, its like the difference between a
leopard and a jaguar.

The tiger fan in me wants to agree and would add this...
-It would be interesting to see how much bigger a 450 pound male tiger would look with a real looking mane put on him while next to a male lion of the same weight. But,the unbiased part of me would point out that modern wild African male lions weigh more or less the same as modern wild Bengal and Siberian tigers.So,..... |

I'd argue that male lions are only more impressive than male tigers in respect to physical build in muscle definition. This could be attributed to a less
percentage of body fat, but probably more so to less fur on the torso and limbs.

Dino wrote: This is indeed correct, even though it is hard to believe because nature does not work this way. Nature must balance itself out. If one is bigger, then the other must be faster. Yes, it is hard to believe that two species belonging to the same family can have no balance whats so ever. If we look at the relationships between the tiger, jaguar, leopard, and cheetah, we do in fact see a balance and harmony. No one specie out of this 4 is entirely superior to the other. The tiger is the biggest, the jaguar is the strongest, the leopard is the most mobile with its climbing skills, the cheetah of course is the fastest. Now it begs the question, why is it that the tiger superior to the lion in every single aspect? The tiger is bigger and stronger, but the lion is still slower and less agile with slower reflexes. The tiger is more incline to kill and headstrong and aggressive, yet the lion is still dumber and less alertive. The tiger is bigger, yet the lion is still anatomically and weight for weight far weaker. The tiger can fight standing up, yet the lion is still no match for a tiger in a ground fight. The tiger has better weaponry, yet the lion make far less with its smaller claws and it has a weaker bite. The tiger already has better grappling skills due to its independent claws, yet the male lion offers the tiger even more grip with its mane. The tiger has far more muscular and heavier limbs, yet the male lion's boney cheetah-like limbs cannot out run a tiger. The tiger is heavier, yet the lion still far less mobile than the tiger being a terrible tree climber, can't jump....etc The tiger has more mass, yet the lion has a smaller heart and less stamina. The tiger uses far more energy on a daily basis since he is solitary, yet the male lion is far less active and does nothing but sleep why storing all this energy. The list goes on and on and on and on. You will not find one attribute that a male lion comes up on top of the tiger, whether it matters or not. But why does nature work out this way? Well, if we look at the evolution of both we will see. During the evolution of both, the male lion sleep through it, while the male tiger fought its way to create the best genes there is. I"m beginning to think that a leopard has a better chance to defeat a male lion than vice versa. I'd say out of a fight between a 400 lb male lion and a 100 lb male leopard, the male leopard takes it 6 times out of 10. To support this, leopards are known to kill silverbacks 4 times its own size. If a leopard can kill a gorilla 4 times its own size, then he will kill a male lion 4 times its size. Even an average 350 lb silverback will destroy a 400 lb male lion easily. leopard > silverback > lion |

Dino wrote:......it is indeed, dino. i have much data upon the mass of these anmals, and it is of similar, if not equal figures. tigers are no bigger, nor are they stronger, and lions have the greater stamina, as well as paw size. they have a proportionately larger chest and forearm girth, and the greater bone density as well. and, kaplan, it is actually the lion which is more aggressive and inclined to battle, and no study indicates the opposite.

A male lion also has a bigger head and greater shoulder height, which would make them appear larger and more impressive from the front view at least. Also,
they have a deeper roar, that for the general population would find them more intimidating. The tiger is the longer cat though, although this is not by very
much. I don't really know how a tiger would look with a mane.... there were pictures of old Caspian tigers so maybe that would be a good indication.

average prime male bengal tiger is around 250kg or so , male lions around 193kg..a huge different in weight etc but they are both good in their own habitat so
no tiger over lion theory is pathetic.
both deserve the same respect in my eyes. |

Scott the largest bengal tigers are right now are much bigger then the largest lions right now. There's a 50 kilo difference atleast. The only person
that will say different, are lion propaganda spreaders on this forum, and made stupid videos crying about it on youtube. But the fact remains never will the
fact be changed. Tigers are by far the largest cats. An actually with todays modern weights, I'd not be suprised if the tiger weight advantage of tigers
is the greatest it's ever been. Lions aren't exactly at an impressive state right now.

I don't know how boldchamp does it. How does he post at every site mentioning a lion or a tiger on the internet. Per example, what an obessed man, every
site he's posting day after day, the same thing trying to spread his crap. Because it will slide off like water and be forgotten if he doesn't post
365 days a year, because it's all bullshit an untrue crap he posts. Where does he get the time? To post so much? OMG.
Just reading some of the websites he post on. Lmao. Just few of his
posts from on of the hundreds of websites posts at. I've never read so much garbage, and lies in my life. Wow this man has absolutely no life
whatsoever.

Tygra, your fourth pic truly shows the difference between the forearms of Lion and Tiger. But your marking is incorrect. You have marked the arrow on the
forearm of the Lion while in Tiger you have marked the arrow on the lower bone.
It shows how even the thickness of the lower arm of Tiger is greater than the upper arms (muscular region) of the Lion! |

Yeah, I guess you're right fallenmonk. It's hard to tell as Hairyfoot's forelimb is slightly bent.
I'd thought I would have a little fun and put a mane on Hairyfoot.

..first of all, the picture comparison trgra showed is not accurate, as the lion is viewed from slightly above, which limits your frontal view of the lion.
also, actual studies upon the forearm girth of these animals indicate lions have the proportionately larger forearm girth, while tigers proportionately larger
upper arms. and, harryfoot looks no bigger with a mane.
